Beauty On A Budget

Gill’s Best Budget Beauty Buys

Like most, I love my expensive cosmetics, but sometimes the purse strings are just too tightly shut – particularly at the end of the month – for me to be able to splash out! This is where my budget beauty buys come in very handy. And I have to tell you, the ones on this list have managed to sneak into my everyday makeup bag too, becoming staples amongst my pricier options.

Coconut oil

This is a little wonder product! Coconut oil is cheap and can be used in so many different ways that it’s really quite amazing. From a moisturiser (both for body and face) to a cuticle treatment, coconut oil can also be as an under-eye cream, to remove makeup, as a conditioning treatment on hair, and even to whiten teeth!

From a makeup perspective, a little slick can be used as a lip balm, to tame brows, or even to lightly highlight cheeks.
Pick up a tub for under £5 from chemists and lots of other shops too.

Vaseline

The classic budget buy! Vaseline is another all-rounder and a tiny tub will last absolutely ages. I like to use mine on my lips at night to ensure they’re flake-free all year round, and I’ve also been known to use this product again as a highlighter or to smooth brows when I’ve run out of my other favourites. It’s also perfect for using on dry patches of skin on your elbows or knees.

Pick up a perfectly handbag-sized 20g tin and get change from £2. See full stockists from www.vaseline.co.uk.

Pencil liner

I generally won’t use any other pencil liner other than Rimmel’s Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil, I’m that impressed with it. The creamy formula glides on easily, so there’s no harsh rubbing on your eyes to get a decent line, and it lasts well throughout the day too. The pencil just needs a quick sharpen whenever it runs down, and trust me – it lasts forever! It’s £2.99 from Boots and Superdrug, plus lots of other stockists which you can find here: http://uk.rimmellondon.com/

Mascara

Miss Sporty Fabulous Lash Extreme Colour Mascara is just £2.99 so it’s a real budget find, and honestly it’s an excellent product, proving you don’t always have to break the bank to get good makeup.
I love the gorgeous fluttery length it gives my lashes in just a few sweeps of the brush. The packaging isn’t exactly glamorous, but this is an ideal mascara for keeping in your bag for emergency fix-ups. I love it! I got mine in Superdrug, but you can see a full list of stockist from the website: https://uk.miss-sporty.com/

Eyebrows

Like most, I get my eyebrows shaped, but I still find they can be a little unruly, so this is where Collection Colour Lash Mascara in Clear comes in really handy. I don’t use it as a mascara, instead I apply it as a brow gel, and it’s one of the best I’ve found at doing the job. It’s ideal if you need grooming without adding any tint to your brows.

I usually pick mine up from Boots, and it’s just £1.99 (RRP). I’ve been using it for years. Find a full list of stockists here: http://www.collectioncosmetics.co.uk/
