Dyson Supersonic blow-dry: full of hot air or a game-changer in hairdressing?
I’d heard all the buzz about the Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer when it launched onto the market last spring, but I was yet to witness what was being dubbed a ‘revolutionary’ hair-drying experience.
Priced at £299.99 RRP I have to admit it’s a little out of my price range, but when an invitation popped in to experience a blow-dry using the dryer at the Rainbow Room International Academy on Howard Street, Glasgow, I jumped at the chance.
And luckily any clients at Rainbow Room International can have exactly the same experience, with the salon group the only one in Scotland selected to work with the new revolutionary Dyson Hairdryer, with each of their 12 salons kitted out.
My stylist for the night, David, explained the technology behind this unique looking dryer, which boasts the first hairdryer redesign since the 1960s. Was the time overdue for a change? Quite possibly…
The first thing I loved was the fact there is no pesky filter at the end of the machine, which I’m forever catching dust, or even my own hair in. Instead, the air is blow up from below. With the motor in the handle, the dryer can feel more comfortable to hold, rather than top-heavy.
A 105mph jet of air enables fast drying, and the two nozzles and diffuser attachment allow for precision styling.
I opted for a blow-dry with volume and body, with David carefully switching between nozzles to achieve the desired look. Check it out for yourself in the pictures – I was certainly impressed.
And this clever hairdryer even has built-in heat protection for natural shine. While other dryers can get too hot, Dyson Supersonic measures air temperature 20 times a second, preventing extreme heat damage. Yes the Dyson Supersonic is pricey, but if you’re like me and you wash your hair at least every two days, it could be a good investment as part of your hair and beauty regime.
Or if you don’t fancy shelling out £300, don’t worry: you can still experience the magic of the Dyson Supersonic during your next appointment at Rainbow Room International like I did. Good hair days await you!
