The Wedding Edit with Mollie Rose Houston

So it’s here, your big day. You’ve spent months planning your first dance, your bridal party, your vows and most importantly, who’s not sitting next to aunt Betty when she’s had one too many!

Congratulations, you did it! You are about to spend the rest of your life with your beau and celebrate such a perfect day with all of your loved ones.

It doesn’t matter if your wedding is big and bountiful or small and intimate. Every bride has the same pride and excitement on her big day.

It’s really easy to get caught up with the tiny but oh-so important details of your wedding that you might forget to take care of yourself, and how to look your best on that hopefully sunny day.

You’ve probably spent hours looking at Brides Magazine, Elle Weddings, and Harper’s Bazaar,  swooning over perfect brides and their perfect skin, makeup and hair. And while we might not all have the budget (or the team) that Kate and Pippa Middleton had on their big day, I have a few tips up my sleeve to help you shine radiantly on your wedding day.

Fragrance

For me, I am a sentimental person. I always have small mementos and souvenirs for each special occasion I am lucky to attend. And your wedding day should be no different. While it may be hard to carry around some of the physical aspects of your wedding, your fragrance is something that you can wear at leisure to help bring back this beautiful memories.

I personally love Jo Malone’s Wild Bluebell (£80/100ml). It is beautifully light and floral, with nothing too distracting that could interfere with nerves and give a possible headache.

Finding a light and airy fragrance is key for your wedding day. Kate Middleton herself wore my favourite fragrance on her big day which was a singular base note of White Gardenia flowers by Illuminum, (£100/100ml).

Jo Malone are also great for fragrance finding as they offer so many different products that you can indulge in on your wedding day, and they even offer complimentary fragrance sessions where they will help you find your signature wedding scent.

Skincare

Now I am a little bit of a skincare maven, so I can easily go overboard with recommending products that I love! But for your perfect skin on your wedding, there are three products that I highly suggest you try for that perfect glowing skin that will keep you looking radiant from the chapel to the dance floor.

First I would suggest trying out a form of chemical exfoliation. This should be done at least a month prior to your wedding to see the maximum benefits. Chemical exfoliation sounds very technical and almost scary, but I trust you that it doesn’t have to be. Your skin sheds its self every month or so, and with that it can start looking a little dull and lacking in the glow department. While many women go for chemical peels and microdermabrasion, I would suggest going for something a little more gentle but more effective than your standard exfoliation scrub.

This one by Pixi (£18) is perfect as it only takes 2 minutes! Applying a thin layer to clean skin and massaging for a few seconds is what I prefer to do before I leave it on my skin for a maximum of 2 minutes. Then you simply rinse it off (I like to use a flannel) and fresh, glowing and soft skin is instantly revealed. It is the easiest way that I have found to keep my skin glowing.

Because your new skin is now revealed, its important to keep it hydrated. I love using an “oil-in-serum” like this one by Decleor (£28). It’s super hydrating and nourishing that my skin can’t help but look healthy and glowing. Using a highly nourishing serum is a great way to keep your skin looking primed and ready, and most importantly, looking stunning in the wedding pictures!

Lastly I always use an SPF on my face no matter what time of year it is. I do have a tendency to tan at any sun contact so keeping harmful rays at bay is key for me in my skincare routine. I love using this SPF by Sarah Chapman (£36) as it is not just an SPF, it actually perfects your skin! I quite often use this and forego my normal tinted moisturiser and concealer when I am having a good skin day.

It’s also important to keep your body glowing too! Again I love these two products for keeping my skin hydrated and healthy. Using a rich moisturiser like this one from Decleor (£20), the night before will penetrate the skin and when washed off in the morning, you won’t be left sticky and unmanageable.

I also love the Nuxe Huile Oil (£24), as it sinks into the skin so quickly and gives me the perfect J-Lo glow – which who doesn’t want that glow?!

Makeup

Your base is something that you will know yourself what suits you. It’s such a personal formula that you know what you are comfortable with, so I will skip that part.

However when it comes to your signature lip colour, there are there formulas that could work for you.

First up there is the gloss. Glosses have seemed to have died out since Kylie Jenner came on the scene, but I have always been in it’s corner. I love this one from Marc Jacobs in the shade Sugar, Sugar (£19) as it isn’t sticky and the typical glossy look that may have been popular in the 90’s. It’s a lightweight and sheer finish that would work well for those opting for a more natural look.

Lipstick is always going to be the standard favourite. I love this one from Charlotte Tilbury in the shade Kim KW (£24) as it isn’t super matte and uncomfortable, but is opaque enough to last the whole day.

And finally liquid lipstick is the formula of the moment. This BareMinerals one in the shade Baby (£21) will last from morning until you want to take it off. These are reserved for those wanting a bold and super long lasting formula that you’ll never need to touch up.

As for powders, I believe that sticking to a lightweight and non-caking formula that will let your own skin shine through and not cake your face. There are so many on the market now that it will be easy to find what you are looking for, but for the most luxurious it has to be Chanel (£32). This will do the job perfectly and elegantly and give you the boost of luxury on one of the most luxurious days of your life.

Something Blue?

Haven’t got your something blue yet? No fear! Using your clutch bag as a way of introducing a sentimental and traditional pop of colour is a perfect way to incorporate your ‘something blue’ element to your wedding.

I love this blue clutch from VVA Handbags (£99) as it is the perfect shade of baby blue that will be just the right hint of colour and equal amounts of fun! If you haven’t gotten gifts for your bridesmaids either then they have a whole host of accessories that are the perfect little ‘thank-you’s”

I’d also recommend that using your clutch as a little “mini emergency pack” is a great way of having the little necessities like makeup, plasters, tissues and a mini sewing kit to hand and stylishly tucked away.

Final Tip

So you’ve planned till your heart is content, and all your bridesmaids and guests have RSVP’d. Now what?

The best part about your day is to enjoy yourself. Sure things may go wrong and accidents may happen, but that is guaranteed with a major event like a wedding.

Everyone is having fun and enjoying your big day, and you should be too! You’ve worked this hard for it, now relax and enjoy it!

I hope that your day does go smoothly and without too many hiccups and I wish for you a wonderful, magical day!

Have a blast!
