Get out of a spot of bother with these blemish treatments

There’s nothing worse than waking up in the morning – especially when you have something special on – only to find a massive pimple staring back at you in the face.
I don’t know about you, but I just don’t put up with having spots, so at the first sign of one, I want a product that gets to work reducing – or even better obliterating it – instantly!
And while I love the idea of dabbing a spot of toothpaste or aftershave onto a blemish and seeing it disappear, for me this just doesn’t seem to work. Instead, I’ve come to rely on ‘rapid treatment’ products – one of which you’ll always find in my bathroom cupboard.

Avon Clearskin Blemish Clearing Blemish Stick

This is a total bargain at just £4 and it really works! I got into using this by my mum who swears by it. It’s tinted, so it’s ideal for using during the day when you have a red angry spot and you not only want to cover it but also want to treat it.

I also pop a bit on at night too when I really need rid of a spot, and genuinely this is one of the best products I’ve found for reducing blemishes.

This little baby is new onto the market, having only launched in August.

Murad RapidReliefSpot Treatment, 15ml,  £17

This little baby is new onto the market, having only launched in August.

The latest addition to the ‘skin doctor’s range, it’s Murad’s most advanced spot treatment to date, boasting a maximum strength gel (with 2% salicylic acid formula – quite a bit higher than many other similar products around) that promises to reduce both spot size and inflammation in four hours.

You can pop this on easily under your makeup, because unlike some other spot gels, it doesn’t dry in a blob, leaving flaky – or shiny! – residue!

Plus – and this might sound a little vain – but I loved the fact it had more ‘grown up’ packaging than many of the spot gels on the market, clearly marketed towards spotty teens! And the decent sized bottle will last for ages.

I’m also quite a fan of Clean & Clear Advantage Spot Treatment Gel, 15ml, (prices vary but you’ll pick this up for under a fiver). It’s inexpensive, gets to work in four hours, and really does the trick. I usually dab a bit on before bed, letting it get to work overnight, and I always notice a visible difference in the morning. If you’re watching the pennies, this is a great buy.

· Benefit Boo Boo Zap! spot treatment, 7.4 mL, £14,50

This medicated acne treatment (with Salycylic Acid 0.5%) helps to reduce redness that is so often associated with angry spots and also helps to dry out blemishes. It’s invisible, so you can pop it on throughout the day and it’s gentle enough for multiple use – so you can keep attacking the pesky pimple until it’s gone!
